Indian manganese alloy prices hit bottom
Although overall demand remains weak, an increasing number of Indian suppliers claim that prices have bottomed out due to low profit margins.
The lower limit of the quotation range for silicon manganese (65% Mn; 16% Si) and alloy (60% Mn; 14% Si) decreased by $10, with quotations ranging from $960-990 FOB and $880-910 FOB, respectively. The quotation for high carbon ferromanganese (75% Mn) is stable at $950- $980 FOB.
According to Hainan West Asia research of several transactions to supply silicon and manganese to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, with contract prices mostly close to the lower limit of the specified range, even lower by $10-20 (FOB $940-950).
However, the supplier stated that they do not intend to make further concessions. First of all, this involves the producers in Andhra Pradesh, where the electricity price has increased by 25% since April 1, which has a very adverse impact on the profitability of local factories. A major supplier said, "I think prices have bottomed out. The possibility of a rebound will depend on whether there is sufficient demand in Europe.
However, there are also less optimistic suppliers in the market. A trader said, "I believe we will soon see the price of silicon manganese (65% Mn; 16% Si) at $920-930 FOB due to sluggish demand and unsold inventory from suppliers.
