Decline in China's Calcium Silicon Prices

Due to sluggish demand, the mainstream price of calcium silicon (CaSi) 30-60 mm x 10-50 mm in the Chinese market fell by 200 RMB/MT(29 USD/ton) at the beginning of last week, dropping to 11,600-11,900 RMB/MT(1,598-1,640 USD/ton) with a 180-day delivery period. Considering the weak demand, industry insiders predict that the price of CaSi will further decline next week.
A producer from Shaanxi disclosed that his current offer for CaSi 30-60 mm x 10-50 mm is 12,000 RMB/MT(1,653 USD/ton) with a 180-day delivery period. For orders exceeding 30 tons, he can consider a discount of up to 200 RMB/MT(28 USD/ton). Earlier last week, he insisted on a price of 12,200 RMB/MT(1,653 USD/ton) and sold 30 tons at this price. The producer stated, “In June, I completed at least 100 tons of transactions per week, but due to a reduction in orders from exporters, I only completed 30 tons in total last week.” He expects the price of CaSi to further decline this week due to weak demand.
This producer has an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons and plans to produce about 1,000 tons in July, which is about 200 tons less than in June due to increasing inventory. His current inventory is approximately 2,000 tons.
A consumer from Henan revealed that a regular supplier currently offers CaSi 30-60 mm x 10-50 mm at a price of 12,000 RMB/MT(1,653 USD/ton) with a 180-day delivery period, including a freight cost of 200 RMB/MT(29 USD/ton). For orders exceeding 30 tons, the supplier can give a maximum discount of 100 RMB/MT(14 USD/ton). Earlier last week, when the consumer made a similar inquiry, the supplier quoted 12,200 RMB/MT(1,681 USD/ton) without any discount. The consumer disclosed, “The last time I made a purchase was in mid-June, buying 32 tons at 12,300 RMB/MT(1,695 USD/ton). This time, I prefer to wait three to four days because both of my suppliers have slightly reduced their prices this week.” He added that due to weak demand for cored wires from steel mills, his consumption in July will be reduced by 20-30% compared to June. He expects the price of CaSi to further decline next week.
This consumer has an annual consumption capacity of 2,500 tons and plans to consume around 100 tons in July, which is about 30 tons less than the previous month. His current inventory remains at around 100 tons.
