Changes in China's manganese ore imports from Malaysia

Since the outbreak of the epidemic in 2019, China's imports of Malaysian manganese ore have begun to decline year by year.

The decline in manganese ore imports from Malaysia can also be attributed to increased maritime transport and ore taste issues. From January to October 2022, China imported a total of 436,595 tonnes of manganese ore from Malaysia, down 63.2% from 1186457 tonnes from January to October 2019. This represents a slight decrease of 6.1% compared to the same period in 2021.

Now, the cost of bulk cargo transportation from Kuantan to Chinese ports is about 13-15 USD/mt, and despite sluggish market conditions, the decline in bulk shipping has given exporters profit margins.
