The Steel Producers of Mexican Express About FTA With South Korea
Mexican steel producers have expressed concern about a possible free trade agreement with South Korea. The trade agreement is aimed at promoting a free trade agreement between the two countries, as well as the Asian countries joining the Pacific Alliance.
A representative of the Mexican steel trade association Canacero argued that the agricultural sector could benefit from the free trade agreement, but it will be generating negative effects for steel producers.
According to Canacero, the steel industry is planning to submit a study of the possible impact of the free trade agreement to the Mexican Ministry of Economy.
Mexican steel pipe producers said that it’s limited to exporting products to South Korea, so the opening of the Mexican market will have the greatest impact on small and medium-sized enterprises in the domestic steel industry, and origin circumvention will have a negative impact on commercial relations with the US and Canada.
