India's chrome ore shipments in September
Overview: India's chrome ore shipments in September 2022 were 203,000 tons, an increase of 37.07% month-on-month. There are two reasons for the increase in domestic chromium ore demand in India, the first is the decline in chromium ore imports in the month, and the second is that the local ferrochrome plant increased ferrochrome production in order to meet the demand for stainless steel.
Main sellers: The top four sales volume were Tata Steel (82,200 tons), OMC (77,600 tons), IMFA (22,700 tons) and FACOR (20,500 tons).
Main buyers: The top four purchases were: Jindal Stainless Steel (28,300 tons), Visa Steel (25,800 tons), IMFA (23,900 tons) and Tata Steel (18,500 tons). Of these, Jindal Stainless Steel sources 61% of its chrome ore from OMC, while the remainder is sourced from Tata Steel. Visa Steel purchases 76% from OMC and the remainder from Tata Steel. 95.03% of the IMFA chrome ore purchases come from its own mines, and the rest from OMC. Tata Steel purchases full volumes through its own mines.
