China's silicon manganese production in the past 13 months

In February, Chinese silicon-manganese producers' output fell 7.3% month-on-month to 850,000 tons, the lowest level since September 2022. The main decline occurred in the southern part of the country with 17.3% to 92,000 tons; North China fell 16.6 percent to 86,000 tons. The decline in alloy production was due to the decline in the profitability of silicon manganese producers against the backdrop of rising prices of imported manganese ore. Since February, in the context of the limited supply of raw materials in South Africa abroad, the price of manganese ore port has risen a new round. As a result, in February, South African ore prices rose by 6%, and Australian ore prices rose by 1.4%. At the same time, the large supply has left China's alloy suppliers unable to compensate for the increase in ore prices by raising spot prices, which remained stable in February. In addition, the week-long holiday from February 10 also had a negative impact on the work of local alloy producers, becoming another reason for the decline in the total production of silicon manganese in February.
