Infineon, an internationally renowned semiconductor technology company headquartered in Munich, Germany, issued a communique saying that it has signed a long-term supply agreement with a Chinese silicon carbide material supplier. The source of powerful silicon carbide maintains the stability of the overall supply chain.

Silicon carbide is an inorganic substance with a chemical formula of SiC, which is smelted at high temperatures in a resistance furnace from raw materials such as quartz sand, petroleum coke, and wood chips. 

The hardness of silicon carbide is second only to diamond, and it has strong wear resistance, shaped as hexagonal crystals

Infineon Chief Procurement Officer Angelique Vanderburg said that Infineon is currently doubling its investment in silicon carbide technology and product portfolio. Accordingly, the company is implementing a multi-supplier and multi-country sourcing strategy to enhance supply chain resilience to benefit a broad customer base.
China's silicon carbide smelting production process, technical equipment and energy consumption per ton have reached the world's leading level. The quality level of black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide blocks is also in world-class. The main buyers were Germany, South Korea, Japan, and Türkiye.
