Turkey's Eti Krom starts high-carbon ferrochrome production line.

According to Hainan West Asia Group’s understanding. Eti Krom, a subsidiary of Yildirim, is restarting two high carbon ferrochrome production lines.

Eti Krom is the largest alloy manufacturer in Türkiye. Due to high operating costs, Eti Krom began to maintain four furnaces in September 2022. However, the company restarted the export of ferrochrome and chrome ore last month, and the business was suspended due to the damage to railway infrastructure caused by the Türkiye Syria earthquake on February 6. The Turkish government has arranged a new route to Iskenderun Port on the southern coast, which is close to the border between Türkiye and Syria and bypasses the train line from Eti Krom factory. After the earthquake, this train line has not yet fully recovered its normal use.

The price of 65% ferrochrome in Europe has remained strong this year, partly due to supply constraints caused by Eti Krom's force majeure. This product is in contrast to the overall price trend in the European ferrochrome market. When the Chinese market recovered at the beginning of the year, the prices of other brands of high-carbon ferrochrome and low-carbon ferrochrome were rising. In March, supply became sufficient and prices began to decline. In contrast, high chromium ferrochromium, which has a smaller market share, not only maintained its first-quarter gains but also reached its highest trading level since August last year.
