Ferroniobium exports significantly decreased in February
According to Hainan West Asia Group, Brazil was affected by bad weather in February, which led to a sharp decrease in the export volume of ferroniobium, while the total shipments have declined since the beginning of this year.
In February, Brazil's ferroniobium export volume was 5,390 tons, a decrease of 36% month-on-month and a decrease of 28% year-on-year.
Exports to China were at 2,130 tonnes, nearly half of what China had in January. Exports to Europe fell slightly (21.2%) to 1,270 tonnes.
Exports to Singapore fell 47.8% to 240 tons,
Exports to South Korea fell to 20 tons,
This is the lowest level since the end of 2020.
Meanwhile, ferroniobium shipments to Japan increased to 517t (+53.7%),
Shipments to India increased by about 60% to more than 200 tons,
Shipments to the US increased by around 21% to over 600 tons.
The sharp drop in exports in February was due to the Chinese New Year holiday, a shorter month and unfavorable weather conditions in Brazil.
As stated in the news, the largest container port in Santos City was forced to suspend operations in February due to the storm,
The country also recorded significant rainfall, which negatively impacted logistics operations.
From January to February, the total export volume of ferroniobium was 13,810 tons, a year-on-year decrease of only 2%.
At the end of February, the average quotation of ferroniobium (65%Nb) in Europe rose by 7.6% from the beginning of this year to US$48.4/kg Nb,
This is due to growing demand in the spot market while material supplies are limited.
